Expédition et observation des Baleines à Rurutu

Durant la saison (15 juillet au 15 octobre uniquement), les baleines à bosse visitent Rurutu durant leur migration annuelle de l'Antarctique jusqu'à nos eaux plus chaudes, profitant du calme et du peu de prédateurs pour se reproduire. Les eaux claires autour de Rurutu offrent une rencontre spectaculaire avec ces mammifères impressionnants. Il n'est pas rare de voir une maman baleine jouer tendrement avec son bébé.

Professional divers will guide you on this unique encounter with the leviathan mothers and their growing young. You will be provided with vests and fins, a dive mask, a snorkel and a wet suit. You will also have the privilege of being an audience to a veritable undersea opera: the power and tonal range of the male songs (characteristic of the mating season), amplified by the coral sea bed echo. It is a dazzling show, simply the experience of a life time.

Snorkeling equipment is available on-site for free.

Please Note
- This tour requires a minimum of 2 participants to operate. Maximum number of participants is 6 pax.
- Sighting whales at each excursion is of course not guaranteed. No reimbursement should be expected in this case either.
- Please note that the whale watching activity is authorized by snorkeling only (no scuba-diving). Snorkeling equipment and wetsuit are available on site; however, you are free to bring your own equipment. Moreover, snorkeling with whales is not guaranteed. It will be allowed by the guide depending of the wheather conditions as well as the mammals' behaviors.
- We recommend this activity only to good swimmers as whale watching is always in open waters.
- Weather: The Australes Archipelago is blessed with a slightly cooler climate than the Society archipelago. From July to October, air and water temperature oscillate between 20 and 24 degrees celsius while summer clothing is fine for the daytime hours, warmer clothing is necessary at night. Rain gear should be provided during outings.
- Participants must be at least 12 years old.
- Proximity to whales may be impressive to sensitive people.
- You will discover the local underwater world. Respect it and touch with the eyes only. It is recommended to know how to swim. The excursion requires healthy conditions. Follow your guide instructions. Program can be modified, postponed or cancelled by the supplier without prior notice.
- Snorkeling with whales is not guaranteed. It will be allowed by the guide depending on the security.
- The swell can be rough during the whale watching season. We recommend that persons prone to seasickness acquire the adequate preventive products.
- Please bring sunblock, water shoes, hat, towel, and swimsuit.
- This excursion is non-refundable if cancelled 7 days or less prior to the chosen tour date.
